Having Containers Doesn’t Make You Organized!

Storage ContainersWatching hoarders the other night there was a woman on who had mountains of containers. She said she likes things organized, but the house was just filled to the brim with containers. This is not organization. I repeat: This Is Not Organization!

In my experience I have seen hoarders with containers and organizing books. They always tell me that they want to get organized and have everything they need but don’t quite know how to implement the tools that they have bought. It doesn’t help if you never read it and put the principles in action. Also if you don’t use organizing tools correctly it won’t help you either.

Here are just some things to think about before you go out and buy anything to organize with:

  • It’s important to see what you need to contain first before you go out and get another organizing product or container. Assess your needs first. You may have what you already need.
  • It’s important to learn how to use the tool of choice that you get whether that be a book or storage container.
  • You can be addicted to organizing products. You also can still have a disorganized home. Don’t buy just for the sake of buying.
  • It’s important to get help from an expert

With these tips in mind I hope that you will take the time to plan what you will be using containers for and not to just  go out and buy some in bulk.

The Container Store: A Professional Organizer’s Heaven…A Disorganized Person’s Mecca

I love organizing! I mean I really do. It is the one thing in life I would do for free if I didn’t need money. (But I need money!)

Samantha PointerSo when I was invited for a sneak peek at the new Container Store in Nashville I was beside myself with giddyness. I have been waiting all my life for this store to come to my town and now it was finally here. As I walked through the doors for the first time I only saw a small bit of organizing boxes and thought to myself “is this it?” But I only needed to lift my head a little more when I saw the double escalator leading downstairs to where all of the real action was.

I was like a kid in a candy store as I glided down the escalator and was met with a huge array of options to organize every single inch of your home. I was having sensory overload! This place was amazing! It’s one thing to see things on a website but a totally different thing when you are in person and can touch and feel. I instantly had hundreds of ideas of how to use the different products I saw to help my clients and me to be more organized. Row after row of glorious organizing gear.

I am so glad that Nashville now has this option here in person and us organizers don’t have to try to find places to get these great organizing products in a timely manner for our clients.

If you haven’t done so already you need to go check this place out. They are open from 9am to 9pm. You are sure to find something to get organized or in the least bit inspired on the possibilities of getting organized. If you are a internet shopper and prefer to shop on their site you can now purchase online and then go to their valet pickup at the store to have your items brought out to you. That is so cool! Talk about your curbside service. This place has thought of everything and as always there is someone there to help you choose your products and to help you know what to do with it when you get it home.

So go now! I’ll be here when you get back or you just may run into me there. It’s my new favorite place in town!
