I Have Social Media. Why Do I Need A Website?

I get this question a lot in my business. The simple answer is that you don't own social media. If Mark or whoever decided to shut down Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter today where would your business be? Do you have all of the email addresses of every one of your likes? The answer is probably not. That's because 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗗𝗢𝗡'𝗧 𝗢𝗪𝗡 the platform. ⁣

By having a website or at the very bare minimum a landing page with an email subscription box – 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗢𝗪𝗡 𝗜𝗧. You have access to the emails. You can get in touch and stay in touch with the people who follow you. ⁣

Don't overthink your website. (𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯)

If you are just starting out you need just your contact info, what you do, and how to get in touch. And of course some type of email capture box. And I don't mean just a contact form either. You need an email marketing system to properly capture your leads.

Try to give a freebie to encourage signups. The freebie can be as simple as a checklist or best practice sheet of whatever you do or something a person can get a quick win with.⁣

Your website should never be static so don't worry about it being perfect. You want to get the information to the people. Your website will 𝗔𝗟𝗪𝗔𝗬𝗦 be a work in progress. So relax and just keep it simple.⁣

Now if you have primarily just been running your entire operation on a social media platform – 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗣. ⁣

Get up a landing page that you direct people to from that social media platform. If you are on Instagram majorly then make the landing page that says “Welcome Insta Followers” and then go into what you do, how you help, how to get in contact, and the email capture box. ⁣

So to recap. Don't rely solely on Social Media to run your business. Create a one-page website or landing page with basic info and email capture capabilities. Then start directing that traffic from social media to your home base so you can start becoming the master of your own traffic by collecting the email addresses. Despite what you might have heard email is not dead.
