Your Q1 Is Over. What Are Your Systems Telling You?

Q1 is over. But before you set new targets for Q2, there is a more important question to ask: what are your systems telling you?

In this episode of #TechChat, I walk through the difference between a performance review and a systems review, and why the second one matters more. Revenue numbers tell you what happened. Your systems tell you why, and whether the same results are likely to repeat.

I use the six systems from the SPE Systems Framework, Traffic, Capture, Offer, Close, Deliver, and Follow-Up, as the lens to review the quarter. Each one has a simple question attached to it. The answers will show you exactly where the gaps are and where to focus first heading into Q2.

What You Will Learn

  • The difference between a performance review and a systems review
  • One question for each of the six core systems
  • How to pick the system to fix first heading into Q2

A performance review versus a systems review

A performance review looks at outcomes: revenue, leads, clients closed, content published. Those are lagging indicators that tell you what already happened.

A systems review looks at the structure behind them. Did leads come in consistently or in random bursts? Did follow-up happen automatically or only when you remembered? Did new clients onboard smoothly? Did the quarter run on structure, or did it run on you?

Six questions, one for each system

  • Traffic: Do you know where your best leads actually came from this quarter? Not a guess.
  • Capture: When someone expressed interest, did a system catch them and start follow-up, or did it depend on you noticing?
  • Offer: Did people understand what you do and who it's for before they got on a call with you?
  • Close: How long did it take to go from first conversation to signed agreement, and were the steps consistent?
  • Deliver: Did every client get the same experience, or did quality depend on your energy that week?
  • Follow-Up: Did past clients and warm leads hear from you in a planned, intentional way?

What to do with what you find

Don't try to fix all six at once. Pick the one system where the most revenue is being lost and start there. For most service businesses, that's Capture or Follow-Up.

Organize first. Write the process down so it exists outside your head. Then automate the repeatable parts, like follow-up sequences, onboarding triggers, and review requests. That's how the next quarter becomes structurally different from the last one: not by working harder, but by building systems that make consistent results possible.

Get clear on where to start

If you went through those questions and found gaps in more than one system, that's a good sign. It means you now have clarity on what's been creating friction. A Systems Clarity Call is a focused conversation where we look at what's actually happening in your business, identify the systems that need the most attention, and map out where to start.
